St. Peter's Church, Deene

St. Peter's Church, Deene is located near to Deene Park. Though dating back to the 13th century or earlier, it was greatly rebuilt by T.H. Wyatt in 1868-69 under the direction of Adeline, second wife of the 7th Earl of Cardigan who led the Charge of the Light Brigade in 1854.

The Church was made redundent in 1980 and it is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Although no longer used for regular worship, the building is to be appreciated for its tall west tower and broach spire as well as its elaborate chancel, decorated by G.F. Bodley in 1890.

Group visits to Deene Park can enjoy a visit to the Church in addition to the House & Gardens. At other times, members of the public can sign the keys out from the Estate Office at Deene Park between Monday and Friday during weekday office hours and from the House when open to the public. Please remember to sign the visitor book.
