Deene Park Story

1086 – Deene Park is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
1514 – Sir Robert Brudenell acquires the lease for Deene Park.
1566 – Queen Elizabeth I is entertained at Deene for one night.
1587 – John Brudenell witnesses the execution of Mary Queen of Scots at Fotheringhay.
1643 – Cromwell’s troops sack the house.
1661 – Thomas Brudenell created the 1st Earl of Cardigan by Charles II.
1730 – George Brudenell marries Lady Mary Montagu.
1780 – Regency rooms are added to the south side of the house.
1854 – 7th Earl of Cardigan leads the Charge of the Light Brigade.
1864 – Adeline, Countess of Cardigan, inherits Deene Park.
1917 – Ernest Brudenell-Bruce is killed at the Battle of Arras.
1937 – Queen Mary visits Deene Park.
1941 – Troops are billeted at Deene and occupy the house.
1943 – The Great Hall stained glass windows are damaged by an American bomber crashing nearby.
1954 – Balaklava centenary dinner is held in the Victorian Ballroom.
2014 – Robert Brudenell inherits Deene Park from his father Edmund.
